About Us
To fight the growing threat of counterfeiting and piracy to the economy, jobs, and consumer health and safety, the business community, led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center, organized itself through a broad-based business coalition, the Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy (CACP).
The CACP has grown to more than 500 members, making it the largest business coalition of its kind. The coalition is committed to increasing the understanding of the negative impact of counterfeiting and piracy and to finding real solutions by working with governments, industry, opinion leaders, the media, and consumers.
This year, the CACP is focusing on a few primary goals, which we believe will make a measurable impact in the fight against counterfeiting and piracy.
Coalition Goals
- Increase IP enforcement resources at the federal, state, local, and company level
- Work constructively with intermediaries, including retailers, financial institutions, e-commerce sites, and Internet service providers on reasonable ways to reduce counterfeiting and piracy
- Increase education and awareness through polling, data collection, and public awareness campaigns.
- Engage internationally to help shape intellectual property agendas for entities like the Group of Eight (G8), the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), the U.S.-EU Partnership, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
Task Forces
To accomplish these priorities the CACP has divided itself into five task forces.
- Detection and Enforcement Task Force
- Internet Task Force
- Legislative Task Force
- Research Task Force
- Technology Task Force
